About Corpus Christi Medical Center Cancer Center

By integrating leading-edge cancer treatments with our compassionate care resources, we work to diagnose, treat, slow and stop your cancerous cell growth.

Cancer treatment services

As part of our program, we offer personalized medicine and genetic testing to give our oncologists insight into your specific needs. To promote your best possible outcomes, our cancer specialists may recommend a combination of oncology treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery.

Chemotherapy

Our oncologists may administer chemotherapy drugs to treat your unique cancer. In addition to traditional chemotherapy, we offer intravenous (IV) infusion therapy to quickly and effectively administer blood, medication and fluids. Infusion therapy is often used to deliver medication that can’t be taken orally, or that needs to be dispensed at a controlled pace.

Radiation therapy

This cancer treatment uses radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors, and is often recommended to control the spread of your cancer or to eliminate your cancer entirely. Accredited by The Joint Commission with the Gold Seal of Approval, our team of physicians and caregivers use the latest technology and many types of radiation therapy, including:

  • Brachytherapy — Radioactive materials are placed directly inside or near your tumor to deliver a targeted dose of radiation.
  • External beam radiation therapy — High-energy radiation beams destroy cancer cells from outside your body.
  • Stereotactic body radiotherapy — Concentrated doses of radiation are delivered to your cancerous tumor without surgery.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery — Highly-focused beams of radiation attack your abnormal tissues without surgery.
  • Volumetric arc therapy — Small amounts of radiation are delivered by a machine that continuously spins around your body.

Surgery

Our oncology surgeons perform advanced procedures with the latest technological advances. Using minimally invasive techniques, we aim to remove cancerous tumors with potentially less impact to your body. Cancer surgery is commonly used in combination with other treatments, such as radiation therapy.

Cancer resources

Our cancer center care team works closely with your primary care physician, medical oncologist and surgeon to meet your needs and coordinate with overall treatment plans. This team typically includes radiation oncologists, nurse practitioners, radiation therapists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, nurses and care coordinators.

We also provide nurse navigator support to reinforce education on cancer and treatment options and streamline communication between members of healthcare teams. They may help coordinate your care or they may help you understand what to expect before, during and after your cancer treatment.

Our team will help you and your loved ones gain access to additional resources, such as:

  • Clinical trials
  • Educational materials and programs
  • Referrals to community and outside resources, such as financial and legal assistance
  • Support groups for your entire family
