Corpus Christi Medical Center is now an active research site for the SUMMIT RISE clinical research study, marking the launch of the hospital’s neurosciences research program.
The study, sponsored by Route 92 Medical, is a prospective, multicenter, post-market Phase IV clinical study designed to collect real-world data on the performance, safety and effectiveness of Route 92 Medical Reperfusion Systems used in mechanical thrombectomy procedures for eligible patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke. The study is expected to enroll approximately 500 patients at up to 50 clinical centers throughout the United States.
Eligible participants include adults 18 and older who receive thrombectomy treatment using a Route 92 Medical Reperfusion System within eight hours of stroke symptom onset or the time they were last known to be well.
“Launching our neurosciences research program is an important milestone for Corpus Christi Medical Center and the patients we serve,” said David Irizarry, CEO of Corpus Christi Medical Center. “By participating in this study, our team is helping support clinical research that may improve how stroke care is evaluated and delivered in real-world settings. This work reflects our commitment to advancing patient care and expanding access to innovative research opportunities in the Coastal Bend community.”
Clinical research plays a vital role in advancing medicine by helping evaluate treatments, devices and therapies that may improve patient outcomes and shape the future of healthcare. Through this study, Corpus Christi Medical Center is expanding its role in supporting evidence-based care and advancing research opportunities for patients in South Texas.
“Participating in clinical research allows our team to contribute to the evaluation of technologies and approaches that may help shape the future of stroke care,” said Dr. Anurag Sahoo, neuroendovascular surgeon. “For our community, it reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing timely, specialized care when minutes matter.”
Individual participation in the study is voluntary and subject to eligibility criteria and informed consent.
Corpus Christi Medical Center’s participation is supported by the HCA Healthcare Research Institute, the multispecialty clinical research arm of HCA Healthcare. Through its affiliated network of clinicians and sites, the Research Institute helps connect community-based hospitals with clinical studies that may inform future care and expand research access for patients closer to home.
