Corpus Christi Medical Center
Bay Area Residency Program

The Bay Area Family Practice Residency Program has a very strong Osteopathic component, including Osteopathic research. Our residents get a great deal of hands-on experience under full one-on-one supervision. We place great emphasis on education over service and providing our residents with all the current tools available to be able to function in the current medical environment.

A Message from the Director of Medical Education . . .

Steven L. Gates, D.O.

Welcome to our Bay Area Corpus Christi Family Practice Website!  I would like to thank you for taking the time to learn about our program.

Corpus Christi, a Gulf Coast community of 330,000, enjoys a warm climate permitting year-round outdoor activities.  Our Family Practice residency program has a very strong didactic component with a full-time Director of Academic Medicine.  The residency also places great emphasis on Osteopathic principles and manipulation, with twice a month OMT lectures and hands-on experience.

We are part of the Texas OPTI which is an educational consortium committed to assuring the advancement of osteopathic postdoctoral training.  Through this commitment, we enhance osteopathic graduate medical education through quality program development and advocacy on behalf of our interns and residents.

Our website will provide you with much pertinent information about our program.  However, should you have questions or need additional information, feel free to call us at (361)761-3280 and speak to Vickie Rutherford, our program coordinator, Debbie Scott, or myself.  We will be very happy to answer your questions, arrange a tour, or schedule an interview.  Above all, I strongly urge you to speak with any of our residents about the program.

Steven L. Gates, D.O.
